Our silence on this topic leaves us with a curious paradox. Heaven is lodged solidly in our cultural DNA. Movies, TV, artwork, and novels all paint for us beautiful pictures of heaven. Even professed non-Christians speculate at times about what life after death in heaven might be like. Yet, we “post-modern” people live at a time when heaven seems “unreal” to us and appears to be vanishing from both our cultural and religious horizons—and perhaps even, I’d argue, from our deepest desires as well. When was the last time you longed for heaven? If you were to long for heaven, for what and for whom would you be longing? With those questions swirling around in the culture, and in our heads, we decided Heaven would make a timely topic for our CONTEXT Easter show. Read More
