Because we need to know

By: Lorna Dueck

Carol deDelley's Victim Impact Statement should be headline news all over the country in a few weeks time. She's the mom who told us this week she'll be replacing her son's birthday celebrations with attending annual competency hearings for Vincent Li, the man criminally not responsible for the horrific murder of her son Tim McLean. Tim was stabbed, beheaded, dismembered and cannabilized on a Manitoba bus on July 30, 2008 by a psychotic Vince Li, a mentally ill man gripped in a schizophrenic delusion. Read More

Powerful Ideas

By: Lorna Dueck

I've been involved in a mess of ideas this week; a Globe and Mail article on fear and the economy, a term paper due on hermeneutical research on John 4, researching and writing for an upcoming show on atheist bus ads, Read More

Love Bugs?

By: Lorna Dueck

Get enough love and you get sick? I have come back from a speaking series in Winnipeg knocked out with a doozy of a cold. It was a wonderful weekend full of many hugs with audiences there, but some of them must have had a few flu and cold bugs carried with them. Thanks to all who attended, and to Darlene and Debbie for hosting me so comfortably. Read More

President Obama's Belief in God

By: Lorna Dueck

President Obama's Christian faith is so engaged in his job that even a remote faith based journalist like me has the direct phone number to call to request an interview with him on it. I didn't get one, and I'm still praying I could get one for his Feb. 19 visit to Canada, and yes, it's a crazy impossibility. Read More

Why not give up on God?

By: Lorna Dueck

I have never suffered, really. I've never faced cancer or incurable pain. I've never lost a child or spouse. I've never experienced the devastation of nature wiping out my property. I've had some disappointing things happen to me, but I've never suffered in the way I have seen others suffer. Read More

Amazing House Guests

By: Lorna Dueck

This week John and Eloise Bergen are testifying in a Kenyan court against the nine men who attacked them and left them for dead... The Bible has a principle about entertaining people. If we'd put this wonderful couple in a hotel instead of our home, gosh, I would have really missed a lot. Read More

Cheese toast and other sightings

By: Lorna Dueck

This blog is to say Merry Christmas to the guy who slammed me at my CBC column for this work of looking for evidence of God amid the news. He said we'd all be better served if I would rather search for images of the Virgin Mary on pieces of cheese toast. Read More

Kids for Sale?

By: Lorna Dueck

How can it be that any parent will sell a child to be used for sex? Family income, a business deal, a devastated life. In this work of being a journalist looking for evidence of God in the world, you will also find shocking stories around the absence of God. Read More

Playing Religion

By: Lorna Dueck

I borrowed two little people to help me enter the Christmas season this weekend; my five and three year old niece and nephew. We bundled up and did an outdoor nativity play where live animals ate from our hands, then went into the church gym where huge jumping castles entertained... Read More
